As we age, gravity causes a loss of elasticity of the skin and underlying tissues. The result is not only changes in the jowl and neck area but also changes in the area of the lower eyelid and cheek. It is essential to address both of these areas to restore a natural youthful appearance. So often after a facelift, a patient has a swept or unnatural appearance. That is due to the surgeon not treating the midface area. This procedure requires unsurpassed surgical skills and training and is the reason that few surgeons actually perform this procedure. The patient above has had a facelift with a combined midface lift. This is the reason that she has had such an outstanding and natural result.
A midfacelift takes approximately 2 hours to complete. Following the procedure, a dressing is worn over the cheek and neck areas for the first 24 hours. There is minimal to no pain associated with this procedure. All sutures are removed within 10 days and some degree of swelling and/or bruising is likely. Usually, two- four weeks are needed prior to returning to work.
