Droopy eyelids, puffiness and bags under the eyes cause a person to look older beyond their years and give the face a worn and tired appearance. The goal of a blepharoplasty is to remove the excess fat, muscle and skin from the upper and lower eyelids, creating a refreshed appearance and a more youthful, firmer eye area.
Fine sutures in the upper eyelid are removed 3 to 5 days after surgery. In most cases, there are no sutures in the lower eyelid, as a laser is used in this area. If sutures are required, they are self-dissolving, leaving no visible scar. A certain degree of bruising and swelling is possible with a blepharoplasty. A cold compress and head elevation is recommended to relieve discomfort and aid in the healing process.
