It is important to treat yourself in order to encourage self-care, despite our natural inclination to spend more time thinking about others. While compassion towards others is extremely valuable, you also need to de-stress and have “me time” to take care of your body and mind. Fortunately, there are some things you can do daily or weekly to help practice self-care that won’t break the bank or take all the time out of your day.
Create
Being able to create something not only makes you feel productive, it also means that you spend time working on something for yourself. If you have the room, build a cozy space in your home, such as a reading nook or just a place to relax. Spend some time finding what you enjoy if you have not already; if you love to bake, set aside some time every week to bake something, if you love to paint, take the time to do so, etc. Once you start creating things that you enjoy, you will recognize the importance of self-care.
Unplug
Say good-bye to your cell phone, laptop, tablet, etc. now and again. Those that spend a significant amount of time on social media sites are often unhappier than those that don’t; it is also healthy to unplug when you can. Your mind will be healthier and you will feel better by spending some of that time reading a book, doing yoga, or even just taking a nap.
Exercise
Even if you dislike exercising, one of the best ways to practice self-care is to get moving! Exercise releases endorphins into your system, which increases your level of happiness. Additionally, eating right can do wonders for your mind and body! Further than what you are eating, is how you are eating it. Truly enjoy a meal with a loved one, take your lunch at work and spend time with coworkers or reading a book; instead of just eating while in front of the television or while working, you can enjoy a meal to increase your self-care.
At CCLS, our February theme is “Love Yourself”, and we want to make sure that you do this! With these self-care tips, along with a trip or two to our Infinity Medical Spa, you will be feeling better in no time!
