A very significant concern for patients is the amount of time for recovery following procedures. I recognize the importance of providing an accurate and honest answer for each patient in regard to their specific treatment plan and procedures. This is extremely important considering that if there is downtime, this could significantly impact both social and professional commitments. While many of our procedures, such as Botox, fillers, and light-based therapies very often result in no downtime, it is possible that localized bruising can occur. This can be minimized by avoiding aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories such as Advil, and fish oils as these decrease platelet effectiveness and increase the chance that bruising. If there is localized bruising, this can often be camouflaged with minimal makeup. In regard to surgical procedures, it is difficult to give a specific answer as there are many different types of procedures and many different levels of recovery. Typically recovery after a surgical procedure can be as minimal as five days or as long as three weeks. Intuitively it is accurate that the more involved procedure, the longer the recovery. It is very important to us at the Center for Cosmetic and Laser Surgery that we provide as many details as possible in regard to the treatment plan, and the recovery so that patients can plan accordingly.
Another significant concern is pain following a procedure. Typically with facial procedures, there is minimal to no pain. If there is pain, this is usually well-controlled with mild oral analgesics. In regard to breast and body surgery, there can be a higher level of postoperative discomfort, however we have leading-edge technology that can minimize this. We suggest patients consider a pain pump with breast and body procedures as this is highly effective at managing postoperative pain. This adds minimal additional cost and is described well worth it by many if not all of our patients. We are committed to providing the highest level of service with the maximal amount of comfort following any procedures. As always we welcome any questions or concerns and will make every effort to make each and every experience a pleasant one.
