For many, the cold winter months wreak havoc on your skin. Even with proper moisturizer, the dryness leads to red, itchy skin that often feels tight. Some people even see their skin start to flake or crack. Essentially, once you start to heat your home, your skin will begin to dry out. Obviously, the solution is never going to be turning off the heat; therefore, it is important to find what works best for your skin to keep it feeling fresh!
See A Specialist
If you have the means, consider seeing a dermatologist or esthetician. They are experts in skin care and will be able to recommend products that will actually work for your skin type. They can also discuss what your current regimen is and let you know what needs to be tweaked to help your skin. Additionally, turn to hydrating masks if you are going to get a facial or peel.
Moisturize!
This may seem obvious, but finding the perfect moisturizing lotion for different parts of your body will likely make a big difference. The skin on your face likely needs a different moisturizer than the skin on your hands, especially if you have sensitive skin. An important part of moisturizing is holding the moisture in; by wearing gloves and dry socks when you go outside, this will help your skin from drying out.
Your Home & Habits
One of the best ways to keep your skin from becoming too dry in the home is by having a humidifier running when you are home. Rather than one large humidifier, have a couple of small ones dispersed in your home to get more moisture in the air; your skin will thank you! You also may be in the habit of taking super hot baths, but you should avoid this as much as possible. The heat breaks down the lipid barriers in your skin, leading to dryer skin.
With a couple of great moisturizers, seeing a dermatologist, and investing in a humidifier, your skin should be able to retain moisture and avoid becoming too dry. Remember to schedule a consultation with our med spa to see if any of our hydrating products are right for you!
