What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, is a plastic surgery procedure designed to change the external appearance of the nose. Since it also alters the internal structure, rhinoplasty can treat physical abnormalities that are linked to breathing problems.
The nose is one of the most significant and defining features on the face. For individuals who are unhappy with their natural nose, they can undergo a rhinoplasty procedure to obtain results that are customized to their beauty preferences. The goal of rhinoplasty is to improve the nose from an aesthetic standpoint and make it more harmonious with the rest of the face.
At the Center for Cosmetic & Laser Surgery, we believe rhinoplasty should only refine the nasal shape and structure to compliment the patient’s overall appearance. It should not change the entire shape or appearance of the face. Our own Dr. Rubach takes pride in his extensive experience with Rhinoplasty and achieving natural and balanced results.*
Dr. Rubach
Rhinoplasty is one of the most challenging cosmetic surgical procedures available. It requires a balance between altering the form of the nose without impairing health and function. It is imperative that a patient’s ability to breathe is not compromised.
Achieving the desired results without causing clinical disruption requires significant training and focus, as well as experience. Dr. Rubach is highly experienced in rhinoplasty procedures. He trained initially in otolaryngology (head and neck surgery) where he gained significant understanding of the nasal anatomy, breathing management, and airway issues.
He also completed a fellowship which focused entirely on facial plastic surgery. He routinely performs 2-3 rhinoplasties per week and has over 20 years of experience.
What Does Rhinoplasty Address?
Rhinoplasty is meant to create an improved facial aesthetic by cosmetically enhancing the nose through surgery. It’s also used to treat breathing issues caused by nasal abnormalities, such as polyps or a deviated septum.
A rhinoplasty procedure can treat the following cosmetic and clinical concerns:
- A bump on the bridge of the nose
- Asymmetry (of the nostrils, bridge, overall shape, etc.)
- Crooked bridge
- Large nostrils
- A wide bridge
- Overly large nose
- A hooked, drooping, or bulbous nasal tip
- Deviated septum
- Enlarged turbinates inside the nose
- Scarring caused by inflammation
- Nasal polyps or masses
- Narrow nasal bridge
- Small nostrils
- Nasal valve collapse
- Cleft palate
- Other structural deformities

Good Candidates for Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a suitable procedure for both men and women. Rhinoplasty surgery in Naperville, IL is designed for anyone who is unhappy with the shape of their nose. Rhinoplasty is also suitable for individuals who have breathing difficulties caused by physical abnormalities.
Your Consultation for Rhinoplasty in Naperville
Before undergoing a rhinoplasty procedure, our team will conduct a consultation that involves a thorough examination of your nasal structure. We will discuss your cosmetic goals, and then create a surgical plan that is designed around achieving your desired results. Any questions you have regarding the surgery and recovery process will also be addressed.
How is Rhinoplasty Performed – The Procedure
Rhinoplasty can be done through either a closed surgical approach or an open surgical approach. A closed approach means that all incisions are made inside the nose, while an open approach requires a small external incision to be made at the base of the nose.
Dr. Rubach decides which approach is most suitable based on each patient’s underlying nasal structure, how extensive the surgical plan is, and the patient’s desired results.
At the Center for Cosmetic & Laser Surgery, we have an in-office Joint Commission accredited surgery center where our rhinoplasty procedures are performed. Each procedure is done with IV sedation and does not require general anesthetic. With IV sedation, the patient is asleep, comfortable, and unaware of the surgery.
The patient will be breathing on their own during the procedure. This means the patient will awaken feeling comfortable and with no lasting effects that traditionally come with general anesthesia.
Recovery
After surgery, a splint is worn on the outside of the nose for about 5-7 days. Dr. Rubach does not place packing in the nose, and as a result there is minimal pain following the procedure.* Swelling and/or bruising can last up to 3 weeks.
If an open rhinoplasty is performed, stitches will be removed after 7 days. It is recommended that patients keep their head elevated to reduce swelling. Patients should also avoid strenuous activity and exercise for at least 3 weeks after surgery. Patients can usually return to work and take part in normal social activities within 7 to 10 days.
It usually takes about 6-12 months for the nose to fully heal.* While it’s not unusual for the new shape of the nose to be clearly visible at the first post-op appointment, it takes about 1 year after surgery for the final results to be seen (in most cases).

Results & Scarring
It typically takes 6-12 months to see the final results of a rhinoplasty procedure. There is minimal scarring with open approach surgeries.
Your surgeon will make an incision at the base of the nose where the nostrils meet. Any scarring will fade over time and should not be clearly visible.
There is no scarring with a closed rhinoplasty procedure because all incisions are made on the inside of the nose.
