What do you do when you first meet a person? You might look them in the eye and shake their hand, or nod a hello and smile. When we speak to others, or hear someone else say our name, it is a natural reaction to look in their direction. We want to see who we are interacting with, and when we do, our attention is immediately drawn to the face.
We do it to ourselves, too. When you look at yourself in the mirror, your face is probably the first thing you examine. As we get older, our entire body changes in ways we often do not appreciate, but the face is a difficult area to hide. Due to the effects of aging, skin sags and wrinkles develop. While such things might be the marks of a long life and wisdom gained, they are not the most attractive mile markers.
Many people would like to recapture their youth, or at least erase the signs of age and get rid of crow’s feet. Fortunately, there are procedures available to those who want to enjoy a healthier and more youthful appearance.
If you are concerned about facial aging or excess skin hanging around the neck area or eyelid area, we can help. At the Center for Cosmetic and Laser Surgery, we provide patients with numerous options meant to improve your most important physical feature: your face.* You can trust our dependable team of experienced doctors and technicians to make your dreams of a more flattering appearance come true. Dr. Rubach is one of the best plastic surgeons in the Chicagoland area.
Facial aging occurs due to a multitude of different factors. First, is facial skin. Aging skin shows the signs of continuous external environmental stresses, most notably ultraviolet sun exposure. This causes a breakdown in the collagen matrix of the skin with resulting winkles, irregular deposition of pigment manifesting in brown spots, and inflammation which manifests with dilated blood vessels causing redness. Second, is the underlying soft tissue structure. With age, the facial structures sags. This is due to two factors. First, tissues lose their elasticity and stretch. Second, there is loss of underlying soft tissue volume. If you think about it, the difference between a 30-year-old face and 80-year-olds face is significant loss of volume in the older face. This unmasks the underlying facial skeletal structure and creates an older appearance. Third, is the three-dimensional bony structure of the face. With aging, there is bone loss and progressive deficiency of bony definition.
Understanding each of these specific changes is imperative to the understanding of how to approach facial rejuvenation. The most common concern that prospective patients have is that a facial procedure will create an unnatural appearance. By understanding the nuances that occur with aging, Dr. Rubach is able to restore a youthful, natural, balanced appearance. This is the hallmark of the success of our practice.
At the Center for Cosmetic and Laser Surgery, we offer both surgical and non-surgical solutions. Some examples of the latter include Botox, Kybella, and filler injections. Botox dramatically improves the appearance of wrinkles and Kybella is non-invasive treatment for the infamous “double chin” which destroys fat cells under the chin, while filler injections improve the look of folds and lines in the skin and restore lost facial volume. Laser skin resurfacing and other light therapies specifically, Broad Band Light or BBL, can diminish the effects of sun damage, age spots, and wrinkles.
When it comes to surgical treatments, we offer comprehensive options, such as facelift, eyelid lift, browlift, necklift, laser resurfacing, and more. Every individual is unique and Dr Rubach understands that a unique surgical plan is essential to meet or exceed his patient’s expectations. During the consultation process, Dr. Rubach will first listen to your goals and objectives. Following that, he will provide an analysis of your unique facial structure and will devise a specific treatment program that is uniquely tailored for you. He often uses computer imaging to demonstrate the potential improvements that can be made. If you have an interest, we highly recommend that you call and schedule a consultation to see the possibilities.
