There are several important decisions to be made when choosing to move forward with a breast augmentation. It is important for the entire breast augmentation process to be tailored to fit each patient’s needs and desires. The Center for Cosmetic & Laser Surgery offers two types of Natrelle implants for breast augmentation: Silicone and Saline. When choosing between the two different types of implants there are several key factors to keep in mind. These include patient’s age, natural breast volume, skin quality and chest muscle development.
Silicone Breast Implant
Silicone implants are round gel implants that have been used for more than 25 years. The implants are composed of a silicone gel that feels soft to the touch. Silicone is offered in a wide variety of shapes and sizes for a personalized fit. Safety is always a top concern when selecting a breast implant that is right for you. Silicone implants have a BIOCELL or smooth texture to them. They tend to look and feel more natural than saline implants. In addition, data shows that they last longer than saline.
Saline Breast Implants
FDA-approved since 2001, Saline implants are composed using a solution similar to your body. This Saline solution is made of saltwater, which has the same salt concentration as the normal cells of the body and blood. Once the implant is inserted, it is filled to achieve the desired size, shape and result for a personalized fit. Saline implants come in a variety of projections (low, moderate and high). Saline implants contain a smooth or BIOCELL texture Saline implants require the smallest incisions compared to all other implant options.
