A breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to increase the fullness of the breasts by placement of an implant. A woman may choose to undergo this procedure for a variety of reasons, whether they are unhappy with the current size of their breasts, the breasts decreased in volume after weight loss or pregnancy, or the breasts are asymmetrical.

At the Center for Cosmetic and Laser Surgery, breast augmentation procedures are performed in our Joint Commission Fully Accredited Surgical Center by Dr. Joseph A. Franco, M.D. Dr. Franco is double board certified in Surgery and Plastic Surgery, and specializes in breast surgery and abdominal contouring. The process will go as follows:

Anesthesia

The anesthesia used for a breast augmentation is very well tolerated. We use IV Sedation which allows the patient to sleep comfortably through the entire process. This allows the patient to have no discomfort or awareness of the procedure and does not require a breathing tube.

Incision

In order to minimize scarring, you and your doctor will discuss in advance where the incision will be placed. This is based on the type of implant, the size of the implant, and your tissues. Generally, an inframammary incision is chosen; the incision will be made in the crease of the breast. However, you may decide on a periareolar incision (made on the edge of the nipple).

Placing the Implant

Once the incision has been made, the implant must be placed. In order to do so, the doctor will create a small pocket, either under the pectoral muscle or directly behind the breast tissue, determined before the procedure based on your discussion with the doctor. He will then insert and position the implant so it looks as desired.

Closing the Incision

When the doctor is satisfied with the placement of the implant, the incision will be closed with layered stitches in the breast tissue, and the skin will be closed with adhesive or surgical tape. No sutures are visible and they do not require removal as they dissolve on their own.

Side Effects and Results

As with any surgery, patients may feel mild pain, discomfort, and/or swelling following a breast augmentation. Over time, this will fade, as will the lines from the incisions. The doctor will give specific post-operative instructions to ensure patients get the best results. Follow-up visits are also important.

First time here & I will definitely be back! Allison did my Botox. She was honest when I asked her what areas she thought botox would be best for me & explained the whole process. I have received botox at other cosmetic centers & this was by far the best experience!
