Though summer is a great season, it can easily wreak havoc on your skin. Being out in the sun for any period of time affects your skin; preventative measures such as sunscreen and exfoliation will save you from painful sunburns and dry skin. With proper skin care as well as protection, you’ll be able to enter fall with healthy and happy skin!
Exfoliate
During any season, exfoliation is a great idea. This process removes dead or dulling skin debris, which lets your skin breath and improves hydration when applying lotion or moisturizers. Summertime leads to more build-up due to sweat, sand, and more, so exfoliating is extra important! Get in the habit of exfoliating in the mornings, before applying any sunscreen, toner, etc. As a bonus, make-up will last longer when your skin is exfoliated!
Hydration
Your body needs extra hydration during the summer, both internally and externally. For your skin, hydrating masques can do wonders when done once or twice a week! Hydrating boosters can also help to moisturize your skin, and toner spritzes are the perfect fit for when you need a little lift. Internally, your body needs lots and lots of water to have a moisture balance of the body and skin. Always drink eight eight-ounce glasses of water a day, and even more if you drink anything caffeinated!
Protection
The most important tip for summertime skincare is to always, always wear sunscreen! For days when you are going to work inside, applying once in the morning will be fine. However, on days you are going to the beach, going for a run, or doing anything outdoors, plan on reapplying once every two hours. Nowadays, you can find sunscreen in lighter formulas, and many face creams are a certain SPF. Every skin type is different, but we all need to wear sunscreen!
Protecting your skin in the summer not only feels better, it also reduces your risk of skin cancer. One extreme sunburn in your life doubles your risk of melanoma! Remember to always protect your skin, and see our experts at our Infinity Medical Spa to discuss facials, Laser treatments, and more!
